100 Acts of Kindness: Building With SELT

As part of our ongoing 100 Acts of Kindness initiative, Grappone Automotive Group is excited to share another inspiring story of community involvement. This time, it’s about Beth Bassett, our Executive Assistant, who recently volunteered her time and effort with the Southeast Land Trust (SELT). This non-profit organization is dedicated to conserving and stewarding land for the benefit of people and nature in Rockingham and Strafford Counties.

About SELT

Since 1980, SELT has been at the forefront of land conservation, protecting thousands of acres of nature preserves, hiking trails, farmlands, and scenic vistas. Their mission is to ensure that these natural spaces are preserved for public enjoyment and environmental health.

Beth’s Volunteer Experience

Beth’s recent volunteer work took place at the expansive 1,114-acre Harvey’s Kennard Hill Forest in Epping, NH. As part of a dedicated team of SELT volunteers, Beth helped build a bridge on a newly established trail. This project required carrying lumber and tools to the bridge site, cutting the materials to size, and constructing the bridge along with its railings.

“We were really proud of ourselves for finishing the bridge and getting the materials in place for the second bridge,” Beth said. “It was incredibly rewarding working with other SELT volunteers to create hiking trails on a beautiful piece of property that will never be developed.”

The Impact of Hard Work and Collaboration

After completing the first bridge, the volunteers continued their efforts by transporting building materials an additional half-mile down the trail for another bridge scheduled for construction the following week. This experience underscores the power of teamwork and the collective commitment to preserving our natural environment.
